Reference & Circulation:
The Reference/Circulation Desk area provides access to the fiction, nonfiction and reference collection and to items on hold at the library. At the Circulation Desk, you may check books out, return or renew books, pay overdue fees, and ask for help in locating books.

Overdue fees are $1.00 per day for VHS and DVD feature films. All other items are $.25 per day per item. All items are renewable in person, on our website or by phone at 717-632-5183. Patrons are responsible for the replacement cost of unreturned books and materials. If you borrow materials at another Pennsylvania library, you may return them there or to your home library.

- Power Library Databases available to all York County library cardholders. The POWER Library allows you to access thousands of full text periodical articles, newspapers, a major encyclopedia, plus photographs, pictures, charts, maps, reference materials
- Pennsylvania Room houses a non-circulating reference collection of genealogical sources, local and state history and old photographic collection.
- Large print collection is available as well as access to materials for the blind.
- Literacy collection for adult new readers.

- Separate areas for mystery and science fiction.

- Complete microfilm collection of Hanover newspapers 1828 to present (available in the Pennsylvania Room)
- Loose back issues of newspapers are kept in a staff area of the library and can be used upon request. We do not count current month in holdings. Newspapers available are: Baltimore Sun, M-Sat, 2 months; Gettysburg Times, M-Sat, 11 months; Hanover Evening Sun, 7 days, 8 months; Harrisburg Patriot, 7 days, 3 months; New York Times, 7 days, 3 months; Philadelphia Inquirer, M-Sat, 2 months; USA Today, M-F, 2 months; Wall Street Journal, M-F, 3 months; Washington Post, 7 days, 3 months; York Daily Record, M-Sat, 3 months; York Dispatch, M-Sat, 3 months; York Sunday News, 3 months.
- Patrons may place items on hold and/or reserve within the York County Library System.
- Interlibrary loan services are available. Through the Interlibrary Loan program, we can borrow materials from other Pennsylvania libraries only. We are able to request materials published prior to the current year only. Normal delivery time is one to six weeks. Interlibrary loan is now available online-anytime - Interlibrary loan online form
- Collection suggestions are always welcomed. Online form now available.
- Shut-in services are available.
- Building is completely wireless (may bring in laptops with wireless capabilities).

Children's Services:
- Preschool, Toddler and Babies Storytimes.
- Tours and school visits are arranged upon request.
- Summer Reading Club, preschool through age 18, June to August. Membership in reading club required for all summer activities.
- Middle School Book Talk Series - Free books, food and famous authors.
- Public Internet Access only with parent's signed permission.
Applying for a Library Card:
Adams and York County residents can obtain a free library card by:
- Applying at the registration desk. ID and proof of residence is required. This card will entitle you to use your card in almost any public library in the state of Pennsylvania. Your card will need to be renewed every three years. Should you lose or damage the card, there will be a charge of $1.00 for a new card. An annual fee of $10.00 is charged to all who live outside the state.
OR
- You may apply for a temporary card number on-line, if you are a resident of York County.* (This will allow you to use the Power Library Databases immediately) This card number can only be used with the Power Library databases.
